More info

  • The Brazil nut is grown in the Amazon rain forest in South America.
  • It is one of the largest trees and also one of the longest living ones.
  • The Brazil nut is found in the Amazon rain forest of Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.
  • Another name for the Brazil nut is the Para nut.
  • The fruit pod looks like a 2/3 kilo coconut which can contain up to 30 Brazil nuts.
  • Brazil nuts have a smooth creamy texture and have a delicious buttery flavour. Great treat for a healthy snack anytime.
  • Brazil nuts can also be made into a nut butter spread.
  • Once you have ground the Brazil nuts they can also be added to soups, casseroles, stuffing mixes, nut bakes, rissoles, pate and protein shakes.
  • Brazil nuts are also available with a milk chocolate coating, dark chocolate coating, yogurt coating or a hard buttered candy coating.
  • They can be added chopped to salads, breakfast cereals, cookies, biscuits, scones, flapjacks, muffins and small and large cakes.
  • Brazil nuts can also be used for cake decoration. Plain or fruit cakes can visually be enhanced with a eye pleasing topping display.
  • It is illegal to cut down a Brazil nut tree under conservation law.
  • Brazil nut trees do not grow or survive outside of the rain forest which they believe is due to the species of bees needed for pollinating.
  • The Brazil nut supply in 2019 failed by 65% due to a global weather condition named El Nino. It caused a catastrophic harvest in the Amazon rain forest due to a lack of rain, which in turn caused the nut pods to fall earlier then normal. This meant there were fewer seeds that had any chance of developing.
  • El Niño happens when the sea water temperature rises in surface waters of the tropical Pacific Ocean. Every two to five years the Pacific Ocean has this event.
  • Once the Brazil nut tree has set, around 15 months, the germinated seeds take 1 to 1.5 years until they are harvested.
  • Harvesting time is usually in January or February..
  • Delivered in a sturdy, resealable pouch for prolonged freshness and ease of use.
